The Cobras (12-7, 1-1) got 17 points from Dartavious Dixon and 16 from Farrod Green in a losing effort.

“We did not show up to play tonight and our defense was bad,” said Wesson boys coach Rusty Newman. “We allowed too many open looks. Amite County was the better team tonight. They shot very well and took advantage of what we gave them.

“We have to pick up our play as district play continues, if we want to contend.”

The Lady Cobras (8-1, 1-1) only made 7 of 18 free throw attempts and committed a rash of turnovers in the loss. They were led by Xzaviah James who scored 11 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Jashia Smith had 8 rebounds and Hannah McCormick 5.

“My girls did everything I asked them to do defensively but (missed) free throws and unforced turnovers were the difference,” said Wesson girls coach Rusti Magee.

Magee’s girls were down 22-19 at halftime.
