Loyd Star ambushed at Amite County

LIBERTY – Loyd Star encountered the hazards of playing on the road Tuesday night and dropped a Region 7-2A twinbill to the Amite County Trojans. Amite won the boys game 44-42 and the Lady Hornets lost 55-37.
The Hornets and Lady Hornets play at Bassfield Friday night in a Region 7-2A doubleheader.
The Hornets (8-9, 1-2) outscored the Trojans 21-15 in the second half but fell short of victory. Terion Williams scored 17 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in the loss. Caleb Yarborough chipped in 15 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Edrick Alsworth had 6 rebounds and 2 assists.
“We played well enough to win but the ball didn’t fall our way,” said Loyd Star coach Moochie Britt. “My team played very well on the road but we got some bad breaks.”
The Trojans owned a 29-22 halftime lead.
The Lady Hornets (3-13, 1-2) trailed 28-13 at halftime. Coach Billy Vaughn’s team committed 22 turnovers in the game.
Eleven points and 6 rebounds by Marcey Givens carried Loyd Star. Jordan Shelby grabbed 8 rebounds. Julie Smith made 5 assists.
Amite County was led by LaMishon Woodside’s 16 points.
