West Lincoln captures 3 wins over Cathedral

NATCHEZ – Duane Marshall scored 13 points and LeKeith Ward 10 in leading West Lincoln’s Bears to a 70-36 Tuesday night romp past Cathedral in Region 7-1A basketball.

In the varsity girls game, West Lincoln escaped with a 38-34 victory.

West Lincoln continued 7-1A play Friday night in a twinbill at Bogue Chitto. The varsity girls tip off at 6 p.m. in R.L. “Bob” Calhoun Gymnasium, followed by the varsity boys at 7:30.

The Bears (18-2, 3-0) maintained their division lead with an easy win over the Green Wave. Tamarcus London led the Bears in rebounding with 8 boards. Sam Bivens and Lucas Burris each had 6 rebounds as the Bears roared to a 43-10 halftime lead.

“We got out front quickly and we were able to play everybody,” said West Lincoln boss Lane Young.

Cathedral got 11 points from Sam Fury.

The Lady Bears (8-11, 2-2) got 9 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists from Destiny Allen in the victory.

“I thought we played hard and made some good plays on offense, but we struggled making free throws in the fourth quarter,” said Coach Young, noting his team’s 1-of-13 showing at the charity stripe. “We have to do a better job at finishing the game.”

Cathedral was led by Sara Beth Willard’s game-high 12 points. The Wave led 16-13 at halftime before the Bears posted a 16-point third quarter.

Junior Varsity Results

West Lincoln beat Cathedral 24-13 in the JV girls game, led by Layton Sills and Hanna Moak with 6 points apiece.

Seven points by Elizabeth Smith led Cathedral.
