Will Hickman’s 17 points led four players in double figures and Brookhaven Academy roared to a 78-48 Friday night District 5-AA win over the Adams County Christian School Rebels. Hickman was joined in double digits by Matthew Evans with 15 points, Peyton Hood with 12 and Caleb Brown with 10.
In the varsity girls game, ACCS held off the Lady Cougars 48-41, sparked by Torry Laird’s 16 points.
Brookhaven Academy travels to Columbia Academy Tuesday for district action and returns home Friday for its final games of the regular season against Trinity Episcopal.
The Cougars (19-11, 3-1) broke open a close game with an 18-7, second-quarter run that put them up 37-23 at halftime. Their 25-point third quarter allowed BA coach Dale Watts to clear his bench.
On the backboards, Hickman snatched 13 rebounds. Evans and Posey each had 5 rebounds. Zac Smith and Posey had 3 assists apiece. Evans dished out 4 assists.
The Rebels got 11 points from Chris Guedon.
The Lady Cougars (8-18, 2-2) watched the Lady Rebels avenge last week’s loss at ACCS. Skylar Adams supported Laird with 12 points.
ACCS held off a late BA run and hit key free throws down the stretch to close out the win. The Lady Cougars tied the score at 37-37 after trailing the Lady Rebels by 8 points in the fourth quarter but could not pull ahead.
ACCS is 2-2 in District 5-AA and holds the tiebreaker lead over BA because of the margin of victory in their head to head matchups.
Coach Bruce Allsup’s Lady Cougars got 11 points and 6 rebounds from Mary Claire White. Hillary Wilson made 6 steals.
BA will finish district games next week traveling to Columbia on Tuesday and hosting Trinity at home on Friday night.
