Funeral services for Arthur Lee “Mr. Peanut” McClendon Sr. of Brookhaven are 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9, at New Jerusalem M.B. Church, with burial in Siloam M.B. Church Cemetery. Williams Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is Friday from 1 until 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. McClendon, 66, died Jan. 31, 2013 at his home. He was born in Jefferson Davis County on Sept. 6, 1946 to Coy McClendon and Josephine Speight McClendon.
He was a retired truck driver.
Preceding him in death were his parents; daughter, Jodell McClendon; a grandson; and his best friend, John L. Johnson.
Survivors are his loving and devoted wife of 48 years, Vera Mae Leggett McClendon; devoted grandson, Ernest Lee Wilson Jr. of Brookhaven; daughters, Verdice McClendon and husband, CaPatrick, of Brookhaven, Phyllis Allen and husband, Troy, of Brookhaven, and Verria Faye McClendon and husband, Darrell, of Brookhaven; sons, Arthur Lee McClendon Jr. and wife, Fran, of Georgia, Stephen Hooker and wife, Anita, of Prentiss, Curtis McClendon of Tacoma, Wash., Edward McClendon of Brookhaven and Johnny Ray McClendon and wife, Wanda, of Brookhaven; brothers, Joe Roundtree of Brookhaven and Irby McClendon of Tacoma, Wash.; sister, Linda Booze and husband, Bernard, of Ohio; granddaughter he raised, Jennell D. McClendon of Brookhaven; special cousin, Ora Nell Hooker of Prentiss; godsons, Tony Humphrey of Brookhaven and Demetrice Davis of Brookhaven; goddaughter, Corena Bates of Brookhaven; 20 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends and his neighborhood kids.
The family would like to extend their greatest appreciation to each of his caregivers and everyone who supported and prayed for Mr. McClendon on his journey.
