Wesson tops East Marion

FOXWORTH – The Wesson Cobras tuned up for next week’s Region 7-2A Basketball Tournament by sweeping East Marion Tuesday night. The Cobras beat the host Eagles 71-56, led by Terry Brown and Mack Smith with 17 points each.
In the varsity girls game, the Lady Cobras beat East Marion 47-41, paced by Jashia Smith’s 11 points. Wesson concludes regular-season play Friday night at West Lincoln.
The Cobras (19-8, 8-2) will be seeded No. 2 behind Bassfield in next week’s region tourney at Foxworth. They got 10 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists from Farrod Green.
“This was a physical game against a quick and athletic East Marion team,” said Wesson coach Rusty Newman. “My guys played hard and stayed focused the whole game.”
Twelve points apiece by Marquise Williams, Katron Allen and Shamonte Coleman led the Eagles in scoring.
The Lady Cobras (13-14, 6-4), coached by Rusti Magee, are seeded No. 3 next week.
