Brookhaven places third in powerlifting regional

The Brookhaven Panthers placed third in the Region 3-5A powerlifting meet at Pearl and seven BHS lifters qualified for South State. Ole Brook coach Russ Britt said South State will take place March 8, at Pearl. Ridgeland and Pearl finished 1-2 in the final team standings.

“We competed very well against the two best powerlifting programs in the state,” said Coach Britt. “We only had three kids advance to South State last year and this time we have seven. Assistant coach Brad Bland is a very good addition to our powerlifting program.”

Place third for the Panthers were Denterius Bowman, 114-pound division with as total weight of 460 pounds; Darius Pendleton, 123-division, 660 pounds; Kentrell Tucker, 148-division, 755 pounds; Jay Trunner, 198-division, 1,075 pounds; Joey Williams, 220-division, 1,100 pounds; Basil Robinson, 242-division, 1,135 pounds; and Anthony Wilson, 308-division, 1,245 pounds.
