The Lady Hornets, coached by Billy Vaughn, got 11 points from Ruby McCullough and 10 from Marcey Givens.

Loyd Star (12-12) had 4 players in double figures, led by senior Terion Williams who scored 16 points. Williams made 12 of 15 free throws. Edrick Alsworth scored 14 points. Caleb Yarborough and Donovan Johnson scored 12 apiece as the Eagles avenged last Friday’s 53-49, home floor loss to Loyd Star.

“Every time (Williams) took it inside, (Eagles) would knock him down,” said Loyd Star coach Moochie Britt. “They played extremely hard on defense and full-court pressed us. It’s hard to beat a team when you play them a third time. I was proud of our kids.”

East Marion plays No. 1 seed Bassfield Thursday night at 8:30 in the semifinals.

“East Marion got away with a lot of fouls,” Britt pointed out. “It was a physical game. East Marion has a good team. They are big and strong.

Shavonte Coleman and Katron Allen each scored 15 points for the Eagles. Spencer McLin scored 14.

The Eagles took a 30-25 halftime lead.
