Bogue Chitto girls elude Lady Wildcats

SALEM – Rheagan Welch authored an 11-strikeout, 3-hitter and Bogue Chitto’s Lady Cats notched a 3-1 Monday victory over Salem’s Lady Wildcats in 1A softball action. Welch only issued 1 walk in the 7-inning game.

Salem pitcher Lucy Puder (7K, 1BB) allowed 5 hits in a losing effort. The Lady Cats scored twice in the top of the sixth to claim a 3-0 advantage.

“Both pitchers pitched well tonight,” observed BC coach Scott Leggett. “We got the key hits at the right time.

“We are still progressing with our starting lineup,” Leggett added. “We will get better after we get a few more practices in.”

Leggett’s girls (3-1) play again Thursday against McComb. Action starts at 5 p.m., with the junior varsity game.

Doubles by Alexis Givens and Christian Black directed BC’s offensive. Adrienne Wallace, Daley Roberts and Mattie Avants singled. They took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third.

Salem got singles from Charlotte Fortenberry, Molly Davis and Rachel Bond. They scored their only run in the bottom of the sixth.

Junior Varsity Results

Bogue Chitto shut out Salem 8-0 in the JV game, led by Pitcher Alana Nettles (3K, 0BB).

Kerri McGehee singled twice in the victory. Lauren McCaffery singled.
