North Pike stops Lawrence County

SUMMIT – Pitcher Lauren Wells scattered seven hits in leading the North Pike Lady Jaguars to an 8-1 victory over Lawrence County, handing the Lady Cougars their first loss in eight outings. Wells struck out 4 batters and walked 2.
The Lady Jaguars took a 6-0, second-inning lead. They got doubles from Wells, Savannah Johnston, Madison Bigner and Jana McEwen. Wells had 3 RBI. McEwen and Johnston each had 2 RBI. Mackenzie Brock, Rickeya Martin and Sarah Brock singled for Coach Sonya Wallace’s team.
“Overall, I thought we played decent,” said LCHS coach Meleah Brown. “We made some costly errors early in the game, on defense and on the bases. That could have changed the outcome.”
The Lady Cougars (8-1, 0-1) got a double and a single from Julian Johnson. Sam Lee also doubled. Kristen Byrd, Alyssa Pendergrass, Jazmin Thomas and Alexsundria Thomas singled.
Elizabeth Smith (1K, 4BB) was charged with the loss.

Lawrence County shut out North Pike 2-0 as winning pitcher Jordan Harp fanned 7 batters and walked 1.
Doubles by Cierra Horton and Karli Bass led LCHS. Callie Fortenberry, Carlie Ard and Amanda Rushing singled.
Jami Small and Reanna Ivey singled for North Pike.
