Bobcats elude Enterprise in 8 frames

BOGUE CHITTO – Junior catcher Brock Roberts hit a game-winning single in the eighth inning to clip the Enterprise Yellow Jackets 8-7 in Lincoln County baseball action Saturday.

“This game was a nail-bitter,” said BC first-year head coach Russ Carter. “Both teams came in evenly matched and fought hard until the very end.”

The Jackets (5-2, 2-0) were victorious Friday night in region 7-2A action as they hammered the Amite County Trojans 14-2.

Bogue Chitto (3-3) and Enterprise will be in action this week as they participate in Lawrence County’s Spring Break baseball invitational.

BC 8, Enterprise 7

The Bobcats and Jackets battled back and forth in the first three innings of action ands the score remained tied at 3-all.

In the fourth and fifth innings, BC managed to increase their lead to 6-3, before Enterprise charged back in the top of the sixth and tied the Bobcats 6-all.

In the seventh inning, both teams pushed across one run apiece.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, shortstop Bryce Roberts led off with a double and stole third before scoring the winning run on Brock’s hit.

Garrett Anders was the winning pitcher in relief for the Bobcats with three strikeouts and two walks. Zach Avants (4K, 4BB) started.

Dylan Smith suffered the setback for the Jackets as a reliever with five strikeouts and two walks. Austin Fuller (4K, 2BB) pitched two innings as the starter. Jackson Cole (2K, 1BB) was the middle relief pitcher.

Steven Ginn and Shiloh Martin were the offensive leaders for BC with a double and a single each. Brooks Ingle contributed two singles. Bryce Roberts provided a double. Hitting safely were Nick Parker, Brock Roberts and Anders.

“I am proud of my guys for fighting hard,” continued Carter. “Nick Parker came through with a clutch hit in the seventh to tie the game. In the eighth, Bryce Roberts and Brock Roberts got the hits needed to get the win”

Fuller direct Enterprise’s offense with three singles. Smith ripped a double and a single. Lane Boyd belted a double. Cole had two singles. Hunter Waldrop hit safely.

“We came out very flat,” said Enterprise coach Cass Brister. “This was a good game between two rivals. We just came up on the short end.”

In JV action, Enterprise stung Bogue Chitto 11-8.

Dylan Smith struck out 12 batters in the win.

Braxton Foster was the offensive spark to lead Enterprise with a double and two singles. Austin Fuller continued the onslaught with a triple and a double. Jackson Cole smashed two singles. Smith ripped a double. Hitting safely were Josh Hardin and Marvin Butler.
