Wesson rips Lady Jackets

The Wesson Lady Cobras remain undefeated in Region 7-2A softball action after blanking the Enterprise Lady Yellow Jackets 16-0 Thursday night at Enterprise.
“Glad to get the win,” said Wesson coach Jackie Johnson. “The girls did a great job hitting the ball and played solid defense. Overall, it was a good team effort.”
The Lady Cobras (8-2, 3-0) continue action today. They host the Tylertown Lady Chiefs for a varsity game only, starting at 6 p.m.
The Lady Jackets (2-7, 2-1) will visit their county rivals, the Bogue Chitto Lady Cats. Junior varsity action begins at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6.

The Wesson and Enterprise fans gathered to witness two unbeaten teams in region play, battle to secure first place early in the season.
The Lady Cobras quickly took care of business as they put on a hitting clinic to blank the Lady Jackets in three innings of action.
Senior Abbey Smith, who recently signed with Meridian Community College, was the winning pitcher for Wesson with one strikeout and three walks.
Senior catcher Macie McQuage and Smith sparked the Lady Cobras’ offense with three singles apiece. Hannah Brown fueled the flames with a double and a single. Sarah Robinson ripped a double. Hitting safely were Kayla Britt and Cheyenne Gladden.
Haley “Bug” Nations, a seventh grade left-hander, suffered the setback for the Lady Jackets with two strikeouts and three walks.
Enterprise was led on offense by Nicole Rutland’s double.
“Wesson has a very good team,” said Enterprise coach Ashley Jones. They hit the ball really well and played defense. Our girls did a good job putting the ball into play, but we did not execute on defense. We must get better defensively, if we except to compete.”
Jones watched her team commit 8 errors.
In JV action, Wesson rolled past Enterprise 9-2.
Mary Beth Munn tossed the win for the Lady Cobras with six strikeouts and one walk.
Harmoni Ashley directed Wesson’s offense with a triple. Brooke Page, Hailey Chassion, Jasmine King, Kaitlyn Smith, Olivia Allen, Sabria Green and Munn hit safely.
Carlee Nations, Courtney Greer and Hannah Rutland paced the Lady Jackets with a single.
