Co-Lin trio receive post-season honors

WESSON – Copiah-Lincoln Community College’s Vintrice Briggs, Chanta Poole, and Jay Case have received post-season honors. Briggs was named NJCAA All-Region 23 and MACJC First Team All-State South Division. Poole and Case were named MACJC Second Team Second Team All-State South Division.

Briggs, a 5-8 sophomore from Roxie, led the Lady Wolves in scoring (12.1 ppg) and rebounds (5.3 rpg). She averaged 1.4 assists per game and 1.8 steals per game.

Poole, a 5-6 sophomore from Ferriday, LA, led Coach Gwyn Young’s Lady Wolves in assists per game (2.5) and steals per game (2.5). She was second on the team in scoring (10.8 ppg) and averaged 4.7 rebounds per game.

The Lady Wolves ended the season with a 24-4 record, MACJC South Division regular season champions, MACJC State Championship, and NJCAA Region 23 Semifinalists.

On the men’s side, Jay Case has been named MACJC Second Team South Division All-State. The 6-1 sophomore from Brookhaven averaged 8.1 points per game average, 2.9 rebounds per game, 1.6 assists per game, and 1.3 steals per game.

The Wolfpack ended the season with a 4-19 record.

The trio, along with teammates LaVasha Allen and Joseph Cunningham, will represent Co-Lin in the MACJC All-Star Game on Thursday, March 28, at 6 and 8 p.m. at East Central Community College in Decatur.

First Team – Markia Nix, MS Gulf Coast; Vintrice Briggs, Co-Lin; Jaianah Matthews and Xzandra Dowd, East Central; Kylan Hughes, Jones County.

Second Team – Katrina Littlepage, Southwest; Chanta Poole, Co-Lin; Presley Owens, MS Gulf Coast; Latisha McCullum, Jones County, Jakela Johnson, East Central.

MEN All-MACJC South Division

First Team – Xavier Rimmer, Pearl River; Deville Smith, Southwest MS; JaMichael Hawkins and Chris Bilbo, MS Gulf Coast; JJ Bolton, Jones County.

Second Team – Frank Snow, Pearl River; Jay Case, Co-Lin; Donta Pittman, Jones County; Aquill Baynard, East Central; Dominique Brown, Hinds; Donovan Ross, Southwest MS.
