Enterprise explodes in win over Bassfield

The Enterprise Yellow Jackets continue to roll in the Region 6-2A race as they thumped the Bassfield Yellowjackets 16-1 Thursday night in baseball action at Enterprise.

“It is great to get the win,” said Enterprise coach Cass Brister. “Overall, we played great. We executed on our pitching, hitting and defense. I am really proud of the guys effort.”

The Jackets will return to action Tuesday. They visit their region archrival, the Loyd Star Hornets, for a huge district test. Junior varsity action begins at 4:30 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:30.

Enterprise 16, Bassfield 1

In a battle of Yellowjackets, Enterprise and Bassfield elected to play early and beat Friday’s possible chances of rain.

Bassfield struck first in the first inning to grab a 1-0 lead.

Enterprise answered with an explosion in the bottom of the first inning and pushed across 10 runs.

In the second and third innings, the Lincoln County-based Yellow Jackets shut down and outscored Bassfield 6-0 to force an 15-run mercy rule in three innings of action.

Senior Dylan Smith was the winning pitcher for Enterprise with three strikeouts and one walk. Curtis Mikell absorbed the loss for Bassfield with no strikeouts and seven walks.

Catcher Braxton Foster led the offensive charge for the Lincoln County-based Jackets with a double and two singles. Lane Boyd continued the onslaught with a triple. Hitting safely were Jackson Cole, Max Miller and Smith.

Jomez Applewhite and Mikell directed the Bassfield offense with a double apiece.
