Hornets rip South Pike

MAGNOLIA – The Loyd Star Hornets shelled South Pike’ s Eagles 15-2 Saturday in 7 innings. Loyd Star scored 6 runs in the sixth and 5 more int eh seventh.
Loyd Star (7-3, 2-1) hosts Enterprise Tuesday for a Region 6-2A test. The junior varsity game begins at 4:30, followed by the varsity at 6:30.
Peyton Flowers pitched the first 2 innings and got the win. He fanned 2 batters and walked 1, allowing no hits.
Caleb Yarborough replaced Flowers in the third and finished the game. He fanned 10 batters and walked 1. He allowed 2 hits and 1 run.
Coach Jared Britt’s Hornets finished with 15 hits. Centerfielder Seth Farmer singled twice and doubled. Braden Smith doubled twice and had 2 RBI. Brendyn Brister doubled and singled. Josh Hodges had 2 singles and 3 RBI. Dorian Beard singled twice and had 3 RBI. Branden Canny doubled and Logan Smith singled.
“It makes it a lot easier when you get that many hits,” said Coach Britt. “Hopefully, we can keep it up this week.”
Blake Lazell was the losing pitcher. He fanned 3 batters and walked 1 in 2.2 innings.
The Eagles got singles from Ray Topp and Jallad Green.
Junior Varsity Results
Loyd Star defeated South Pike 15-7 in the preliminary JV game. Lane Rogers was the winning pitcher.
