Lady Cougars steam rolls Columbia

MONTICELLO – The Lawrence County Lady Cougars are riding a hot winning streak as they steamrolled the Columbia Lady Wildcats 12-2 Tuesday night in Region 7-4A softball action.

“This was a good win for us,” said LCHS coach Meleah Howard. “We came out hitting great in the first two innings. We just need to learn to keep that going. It is a great feeling when you win a district game.”

The LCHS Lady Cougars (15-1, 3-1) resume action Thursday. They visit Purvis to battle the Lady Tornadoes. Junior varsity action kicks off at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity at 6.

Lawrence Co. 12, Columbia 2

Freshmen Elizabeth Smith was the winning pitcher for the Lady Cougars with four strikeouts and three walks.

Junior first baseman Jazmin Thomas directed the offensive explosion to lead the LCHS with a double and a single. Kristen Byrd, Alyssa Pendergrass and Julian Johnson continued the onslaught with a pair of singles each. Jamie Martin ripped a double and Smith singled.
