Wesson exterminates Bassfield

BASSFIELD – The Wesson Cobras exterminated the Bassfield Yellowjackets 16-4 in baseball action Tuesday night for a key Region 7-2A win.

“It is great to get a division win,” said Wesson coach Seth Lofton. “We had some guys step up and get some clutch hits. Our defense and pitching had a good night. Overall, this was a solid team effort.”

The Cobras (13-2, 5-0) resume action today. They host the Yellowjackets of Bassfield. Junior varsity action begins at 4:30 p.m., followed by the varsity at 6:30.

Wesson 16, Bassfield 4

Bailey Warren was the winning pitcher for the Cobras with 10 strikeouts and two walks.

Gary Loftin took the loss for Bassfield with one strikeout and seven walks.

Warren provided the offensive charge to lead Wesson with two doubles. Jase Alexander fueled the flames with a triple. Hitting safely were Kaleb Skinner, Cullen Greer, Brandon Nettles, Justin Boone and Quentin Munn.

Curtis Mikell directed Bassfield’s offense with a triple and a single. Kevin Hathorn contributed a triple. Loftin ripped a double. Jomez Applewhite and Dekieius Green singled.
