The Lincoln County School Board met Tuesday night to approve the 2013-2014 academic calendar and take care of other standard measures.
“It is the same as last year’s,” Superintendent Terry Brister said of the new calendar
Aug. 6 will be the first day of school for students in the Lincoln County district.
A fall break will take place Oct. 9-11, the Thanksgiving holiday will allow students a week break Nov. 25-29 and the semester will end for Christmas holidays Dec. 23.
The second semester will begin Jan. 6 with spring break to take place March 10-15. The Easter holiday break is set for April 17-21.
The last day of school for the academic year will be May 23.
Some of the time off for holidays is dependant on “bad weather days” that may require school closure.
Brister said the next academic calendar could see less time off throughout the school year due to classes starting later, a decision made by state officials.
“Next year may be a different story,” he said. “There will not be as many of these holidays.”
The board also approved two school bus turnaround requests, one on West Lincoln Drive and one on Auburn Drive.
The kindergarten supply list for the upcoming school year was approved as well as a request for a preschool graduation ceremony to take place at the New Sight gymnasium on May 2.
The board accepted bids for several 16th section lots. Most bidders were looking at the property for hunting and fishing, although a few were seeking leases for residential purposes.
Brister adjourned the meeting with his usual report of affairs.
“We are getting ready to start construction on things when and where we can,” he said. “As far as the teachers, all they are focused on is testing right now.”
