West Lincoln warms up bats against Lady Lions

> Saturday was a good day for West Lincoln’s Lady Bears. They swept the Weir Lady Lions 15-3 and 16-1 at the Cow Palace, in the opening round of the MHSAA Class 1A State Softball Playoffs.

“I was pleased with our hitting,” said West Lincoln coach Andrew Redd. “Our girls came out ready to play today. I was real proud of them.”

The Lady Bears (15-12) host Sebastopol Friday for a single game. They’ll play at least 1 game Saturday at Sebastopol as the best-of-three series continues.

W. Lincoln 15, Weir 3

The Lady Bears beat Weir in 5 innings as sophomore Micah Redd (6K, 2BB) pitched the victory. She gave up 6 hits.

West Lincoln finished with 9 hits, led by Redd who singled and tripled. Malori Hall doubled. Collecting singles were Brianna Fauver, Bentley Sills, Heather Moak, Millane Lewis, Destiny Allen and Katie Hester singled.

Tay Gibbs (0K, 7BB) was the losing pitcher.

The Lady Lions got 2 singles from Kayla Hannah.

W. Lincoln 16, Weir 1

Hall (8K, 1BB) pitched the 5-inning victory for West Lincoln. She scattered 3 hits.

The Lady Bears accounted for 11 hits. Leading the way was Allen who doubled and tripled. Sills singled and doubled. Moak and Hester each had 2 singles. Redd doubled. Destiny Wallace and Peyton White singled.

Gibbs (2K, 9BB) absorbed the loss. She hit 2 batters.

Somiya Forrest, Deijah Henley and Gibbs singled for Weir. This is the school’s last year before consolidating with Ackerman.
