Co-Lin opened the scoring in the first as Kaitlin Moak led off with a single. She moved to third on Missy Romero’s single to left and Romero stole second. With 2 out, Hannah Roberts’ sharp grounder off the third baseman’s glove brought in 2 runs. Shelby Mitchell drew a walk and Bradi Davis stroked an RBI single to left for a 3-0 lead.

In the second, with one out, Moak singled and Josie Porter drilled an RBI single to left and stole second herself. They both scored for a 5-0 lead.

Hinds touched starting hurler Brooke Gonzales for a 3-run third, trimming the lead to 5-3. The Lady Wolves responded in the bottom half. With 2 out, Moak delivered an RBI single and Porter smoked a 2 run single to left for a 9-3 lead.

Gonzales (16-7) pitched the complete game victory, scattering 7 hits for 3 earned runs on 5 strikeouts and 3 walks.

“Brooke didn’t have her best stuff today, but she battled hard,” said Co-Lin coach Allen Kent. “We played flawless defense behind her, turning two double plays. We really communicated well on defense and took them out of a couple innings.”

Moak was 3 for 4 with 3 singles, 3 runs and 3 stolen bases. Porter’s 2 singles and 3 RBI helped the cause. Davis went 2-for-2 and was hit by a pitch. Mitchell singled and walked twice.

Co-Lin 5, Hinds 4

Co-Lin took a 2-0 lead in the third as Kaitlan Melton reached on a 1 out error. Moak dropped an infield single over the pitcher. With 2 out, Romero reached on an error and Roberts drilled a 2-run double to left center.

In the 4th, Mitchell lead off with a walk and Rials pinch ran. Davis beat out a bunt single and Rials advanced to third. With one out, Melton delivered an RBI single to center. Davis scored on a groundout by Moak for a 4-0 lead.

In the fifth, Hinds finally got to Co-Lin starter Meghan Johnson, scoring once and loading the bases with 2 out. Sophomore Chynna Coghlan entered and surrendered a 3-run double. She ended the threat with a strikeout on Katelyn Hegwood with the score tied at 4-4.

Coghlan held the Lady Eagles scoreless through the 7th. With the international tiebreaker in effect in the eighth, a runner was placed at second. Hinds advanced the runner to third on a sacrifice bunt, but Coghlan got another clutch strikeout on Hegwood and a comeback grounder to end the inning.

Elizabeth Cliburn pinch ran for Roberts in the bottom half and Karla Beth Hux laid down a sacrifice bunt. Third baseman Hegwood tried unsuccessfully to get Cliburn at third.

Mitchell was intentionally walked to load the bases with no out. Beth Fortenbery pinch hit for Davis and lifted a game winning sacrifice fly to center, plating Cliburn for a 5-4 victory.

“We made one error to open game two, but immediately turned a double play to get out of it,” said Coach Kent. “That was our only error of the day. Davis, Porter, Moak and Kayla Craft played outstanding defense.”

Moak’s 2 singles paced the hitting attack. She was 5 for 8 on the day with 4 runs scored. Mitchell collected 3 walks in game 2 and 5 on the day.

Coghlan earned the win, tossing 3 and a third innings with 2 hits, 2 strikeouts, no walks and no runs.
