One killed, another hurt in shooting
BUDE – A shooting at a Bude gas station left one person dead and another injured Thursday morning.
According to Franklin County Sheriff James Newman, James William Wallace, 54, of Roxie allegedly fatally shot Bruce Anthony Lofton, 49, of McCall Creek with a small-caliber handgun at the Gas Lane Shell station located at the intersection of Highway 184 and Highway 98.
Lofton died on the scene.
Newman said Christopher Allen Shell, 45, of Roxie was also shot by Wallace in the arm during the incident and sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Wallace was taken into custody without incident and faces murder and aggravated assault charges, the sheriff said.
Deputies responded to a call made by an attendant at the gas station at 5:20 a.m. Thursday.
According to Newman, in addition to the attendant on duty, there were a few customers in the store at the time of the shooting.
Newman said the shooting occurred just inside the entrance of the store.
As of Friday morning, the motive is unclear and the incident is still under investigation.
“This is a tragic incident for all three parties involved,” Newman said in an interview Friday morning.
“These are good, solid country names in Franklin County,” Newman said. “I am very familiar with all three families.”
