Mother’s Day offers us a special opportunity to express our thanks

Mother’s Day only comes one Sunday a year, but it’s a special time for us all to show our appreciation to the person who filled the maternal role in our lives.
For most of us, that individual is our mother, but for some, an aunt, grandmother or other significant female adult in their lives provided that maternal nurturing.
This morning will see accolades for mothers in churches in Lincoln County, our surrounding area and across the nation, recognizing the vitally important role mothers play in bringing forth each next generation of responsible, caring adults.
Today, moms and grandmothers will be taken out for lunch and feted with cards, flowers and presents, but, no doubt, the most appreciated “gifts” of the day will be warm hugs and the heartfelt words, “I love you, Mom.”
For those whose mothers are no longer with them, this day can be a bittersweet one. We encourage them to share some time today with one of the other special women in their lives – a treasured aunt, a sister, a female mentor – who might not otherwise be treated to something special on the holiday.
To all of the moms out there today, we wish you a Happy Mother’s Day!
