Lady Warriors eliminate BC

NANIH WAIYA — A second straight close loss eliminated Bogue Chitto’s Lady Cats from the MHSAA Class 1A State Softball Playoffs as they fell 3-1 to the Nanih Waiya Lady Warriors in Game 2 of a best-of-three series to determine the South State Championship.
Nanih Waiya advances to the state championship series against North champion West Union this weekend at Liberty Park in Ridgeland.
Bogue Chitto (21-10) lost a 1-0 decision to Nanih Waiya on Monday.
“We had a good year but it didn’t end the way we wanted,” said BC coach Scott Leggett. “We made it back to the South State finals for the fifth time in six years.
“I’m proud of our team,” he added. “We look forward to making another run next year.”
Brantlie Sheets (2K, 1BB) scattered 6 hits and notched the win. Christian Black (6K, 5BB) allowed just 2 hits and absorbed the loss.
At the plate, BC got 2 hits from Colby Kirkland and Mattie Avants. Mallory Allen and Alana Nettles singled. The Cats committed 2 errors.
The Lady Warriors (23-7-1) got singles from Ryan Holdiness and Marlee Marks. They scored twice in the bottom of the fifth to secure the win.
