Duck call for cupcakes

With a careful hand and extra attention to detail Becky Hall meticulously hand-paints the fondant ducks set to crown her assorted cupcakes Thursday afternoon.
Although Hall would insist she practices the same precision for all her client’s confections, these cupcakes are intended for a special customer.
The illustrious recipient is Si Robertson, a cast member on A&E’s television series “Duck Dynasty.”
Hall’s sweet treats are making their way to Robertson thanks to frequent customer and family friend of the Robertson clan Robin Smith.
“Robin decided she needed to bring Si some of Mrs. Becky’s cupcakes,” Hall says from her bakery she operates with her mother Nancy West.
Since opening Cakehaven two years ago, Hall and West have created several pastries for customers decorated with the likeness of the popular television character, but Hall says she never expected her cupcakes would be enjoyed by Robertson himself.
“We are very excited for the opportunity,” Hall says. “I hope once he tries them he’ll want some more.”
In the ornately packed box destined for Robertson, Hall’s creations include vanilla, strawberry, cream-filled chocolate topped with a duck call and Hall’s favorite, turtle cupcakes crafted to resemble a Louisiana marsh.
“We’re going to give him a good variety to try,” she says.
Hall’s enthusiasm is evident, but unmatched to her 14 year-old daughter Kaytlyn’s as she explains.
“My daughter’s a huge fan of the show,” Hall says. “Si is her favorite character.”
Surrounded by her three sons, daughter and mother in her Congress Street bakery, Hall seems optimistic about future celebrity ventures but humbly attributes her success thus far to her family.
“It’s a family operation here at Cakehaven,” she says. “We all help out.”
