Robert D. ‘Bob’ Montgomery

Funeral services for Robert D. “Bob” Montgomery, 76, were Saturday, June 15, at 11 a.m. at the Cedar Avenue Chapel of Brummitt-McKenzie Funeral Home. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, McKenzie, Tenn.
Mr. Montgomery died June 13, 2013 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. He was born Oct. 27, 1936 in Lincoln County, the son of Harold C. Montgomery and Georgia Jordan Montgomery of Bogue Chitto.
Mr. Montgomery graduated from Brookhaven High School in 1953; and he also graduated from Tulane University in New Orleans in 1957 and from Tulane Law School in 1962. After several years in business in New Orleans, during which time he served as president and office manager of Wand Rubber Stamp Works, Inc., he and his family relocated to Jackson, Tenn. in 1986. After retiring from Canteen Vending in Jackson in 2006, he and his wife, Barbara, moved to McKenzie, Tenn. He was a member of First Baptist Church, McKenzie, where he also served as a deacon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Billy G. Montgomery; and grandson, Jacob Montgomery McBride.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Barbara Lee Montgomery, whom he met in College Youth Group at St. Charles Ave. Baptist Church in New Orleans. He is also survived by his daughter, Rebecca “Becky” McBride (Kenny) of McKenzie; son, Robert L. “Bert” Montgomery (Jency) of Starkville; four grandsons, Matthew McBride and Will McBride of McKenzie, Tenn., and Robert “Rob” Montgomery and Daniel Montgomery of Starkville; brother, Donald Montgomery of Tallahassee, Fla.; and sister, Myra M. Case of Bogue Chitto.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church in McKenzie or McKenzie Memorial Library.
