Americans claim DYB 8s district title

The Lincoln County Dixie Youth Americans continued their victorious march Saturday. They won the AA Coach/Pitch 8s District Six Tournament title with a 13-6 victory over Walthall County at Keystone Park.

The Americans edged Walthall County 12-10 Friday night on a rain-soaked field in Game 1 of the best-of-three series.

Both teams advance to Pascagoula, site of the AA state tournament. The Americans play Hatley at 8 p.m. Friday night, July 12.

“It was good to win the first game,” said American head coach/manager Blake Wallace. “Our kids hit the ball real well.”

Americans 12, Walthall 10

The Americans erased a 9-7 Walthall lead with a 5-run fifth inning. Trevor Fortenberry had 3 hits in the victory. Mason Davis doubled twice and singled.
