A Brookhaven man was killed and two others were injured in a two-vehicle collision Friday afternoon, authorities said.

Lincoln County Sheriff Steve Rushing said James Carlisle, 34, was pronounced dead at the scene by Lincoln County Deputy Coroner John Riggs following an accident that occurred near the 900 block of Mallalieu Drive at approximately 3:30 p.m. Friday.

According to Rushing, Carlisle was driving south on Mallalieu Drive in his 2006 Suzuki Reno when he collided head-on with a 2006 Chevrolet pickup heading north driven by Butch Delaughter.

Both Delaughter and his passenger, Gary Delaughter, managed to escape the pickup before it caught fire.

Rushing said the Delaughters were rushed to Southwest Mississippi Medical Center in McComb to be treated for injuries sustained in the accident.

Brookhaven Fire Department Shift Capt. Billy Beeson said the jaws-of-life were used to remove Carlisle from his vehicle before Riggs pronounced him dead on the scene.

Riggs said the cause of death was from blunt-force trauma.

The accident is still under investigation.
