DENVER — Rookie Corey Dickerson, playing left field in place of injured slugger Carlos Gonzalez, belted an offering from Milwaukee Brewers starter Donovan Hand over the right-center-field wall for the first homer of his big league career in a 6-5 Sunday victory at Coors Field.

Dickerson, promoted from Class AAA in June, has appeared in 18 games. He’s batting .256, with 4 doubles and 3 RBIs. He’s scored 6 runs.

Dickerson, a 2008 Brookhaven Academy graduate, grew up in Summit. He played baseball at Meridian Community College before being drafted by the Rockies in the 8th round of the 2010 Major League Draft. He spent the 2012 season at Class AA Tulsa.
