Funeral services for Jewell Franklin of Brookhaven are noon on Thursday, Aug. 1, at Mt. Zion Church of Christ, with burial in the church cemetery. Brookhaven Funeral Home, Natchez Drive location, is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Wednesday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home and Thursday from 11 a.m. until noon at the church.

Mrs. Franklin, 89, died July 30, 2013 at her daughter’s home in Brookhaven. She was born in Brookhaven on June 30, 1924 to J.O. “Jim” Redd and Hattie Wooten Redd.

Mrs. Franklin was a retired telephone operator for Bell Telephone Co., and she ended her career as a switchboard operator at King’s Daughters Hospital. She was also a member of Mt. Zion Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rayford Franklin; three brothers, Parson Redd, Otis Redd and Robert Redd; and three sisters, Annie Hollingsworth, Vera Redd and Helen Redd.

Survivors are her three daughters, Wanda Waldon and husband, Jim, Judy Smith and husband, Lancy, and Cynthia Case and husband, Robert “Nubby” Case, all of Brookhaven; one son, Woodie Franklin and wife, Linda, also of Brookhaven; 10 grandchildren, Kim Pace, David Case, Justin Jackson, Wade Smith, Matt Waldon, Anna Bahena, Lyndsay King, Jon Espy, Jessica Franklin and Madison Franklin; 14 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
