BA Lady Cougars notch first win against Trinity

VIDALIA, La. – The Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougars won their first softball game of the season Thursday, beating Natchez Trinity Episcopal School 16-8 at the Concordia Parish Recreation Sports Complex.

     Sophomore Alex Rai Smith pitched the victory. She struck out 2 batters and walked 1, allowing 5 hits.

     “We played pretty good defense,” said BA coach Kaylin Lofton. “We hit the ball well, too.”

     Lofton’s  Lady Cougars finished with 13 hits. They were led by leftfielder Anna Grace Covington’s 3 singles and 1 double. Second baseman Maura Dunaway and third baseman Alli Livingston both tripled and singled. Smith and K.K. Jordan singled twice.

     Amanda Rushing doubled and Allison Barry singled as the Lady Cougars took an 11-1, third inning lead..

     Covington (1K, 2BB) tossed 3 innings of relief.  She allowed 4 hits.

     Katie Hutchins was the losing pitcher.

     The Lady Saints got 2 singles and a double from K. Parks.

     The Lady Cougars (1-4) participate in the Columbia Academy Tournament Saturday and host Simpson County Monday. At Columbia tomorrow, they meet Lamar at 9 a.m., Columbia Academy at 1:30 p.m. and Newton Academy at 3 p.m.
