Funeral services for Helen Jean Calloway Herring of Brookhaven are 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3, at New Vision Fellowship Center, with burial in Carver Heights Cemetery on Aug. 4. Williams Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is Saturday from 1 until 4 p.m. at the funeral home and 5 until 6 p.m. at the church.
Mrs. Herring, 76, died July 30, 2013 at her home. She was born in Brookhaven on Aug. 10, 1936 to Lawyer Calloway and Lentiel Browder Calloway-Johnson.
She was a 1954 graduate of Alexander High School and a 1965 graduate of Jackson State University. Mrs. Herring was the founding pastor of Higher Ground Ministry.
Preceding her in death were her parents; stepfather, L.J. Johnson; and grandchild, Jurianna Herring.
Survivors are her husband, the Rev. A.C. Herring Sr.; daughters, Pastor Lennie Bracey of Brookhaven, Minister Melody Green of Brookhaven and Josie Jeanette Taylor of Brookhaven; son, Allen C. Herring Jr. and wife, Pam, of Brookhaven; sisters, Carolyn Thrasher of Los Angeles and husband, Hardy, of Brookhaven, Janice Calloway-Batson and husband Michael, of Staten Island, N.Y., Delores Calloway-Lane and husband, Milton, of Virginia Beach, Va., Betty Warner and husband, Calvin, of Bronx, N.Y., and Debra Yumor, of Bronx, N.Y.; brother, Lawrence Calloway and wife, Angela, of Maywood, Ill., 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
