Request for openness on the issues

Dear Editor:
I wanted to write this letter to express my feelings concerning a couple of issues that happened in Brookhaven on Thursday evening, Aug. 8, 2013.
The mayor and Board of Aldermen chose to have a continuance of the Tuesday evening city board meeting. As we all know, this is a public meeting, and the public is invited.
My concern is there was no public announcement concerning this meeting as far as I could find. As I came to find out, the meeting was about a discussion concerning what the aldermen would do about the liquor issue. At the end of the discussion, there was a vote by the board to open the doors to all forms of liquor sales in Brookhaven. My concern is why was there not a notice in the local paper about this very important vote.
I know the issue has already been decided and nothing would change that. I did note there were several people there who were in favor of the issue. How did they know? Did some of our elected officials not want this to be known? My other issue has to do with the TV broadcast not being on our local cable station. Is there something our newly elected officials are trying to hide? Many people who cannot come enjoy watching this broadcast.
Please Mr. Mayor and board, let’s be a little more open about the issues and to the people you represent. We hope this is not a pattern of things to come.
