Brookhaven, West Lincoln secure victories in Ole Brook 5K meet

The Brookhaven and West Lincoln girls teams finished first and second, respectively, in their season cross-country opener at Ole Brook’s 5K meet Saturday.

Natchez was the overall winner in the varsity boys race.

In the junior varsity race, the West Lincoln boys and girls team secured first place. Brookhaven finished second.

Brookhaven’s Andie Netherland finished second place in the varsity girls race to led the Class 5A Lady Panthers with a time of 27:01. Kenya Davis of Natchez High came in first place with a time of 25:38.

In the varsity boys meet, Natchez’s Brandon Washington took first place and Tyrell Jones secured second place with the time of 19:31 and 20:35.

In JV action, Matthew Allred of West Lincoln claimed first place in the boys race with the time of 19:58. Jason Watts of West Lincoln was second with the time of 20:01. Brookhaven’s Caleb McCreary placed third at 23:05. In fourth place was West Lincoln’s Matthew Geis at 23:33.

In the girls meet, Lexie Leggett of West Lincoln secured first places with a time of 25:45. Lillian Rushing of WLHS placed second at 26:46. Brookhaven runners Jordan Fries (27:26) and Madisyn Wall (29:26) finished in third and fourth place.

Brookhaven will host an Ole Brook Cross Country Classic today at the Hansel King Sports Complex. The JV girls are set to start at 4:30, followed by the boys. Varsity action begins at 5:30 for the girls, followed by the boys.
