Funeral services for J.E. Pickering Jr. of Brookhaven are 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at Damascus Baptist Church in Franklin County, with burial in the church cemetery. Riverwood Family Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Monday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home and Tuesday from 10 until 11 a.m. at the church.

Mr. Pickering, 75, died Sept. 7, 2013 in Brookhaven. He was born in Mississippi on Aug. 3, 1938 to Judd Eldridge Pickering and Rhoda Pickering.

He worked for the International Paper Company in Natchez for 40 years and was a member of Damascus Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents; sisters, Lois Smith, Josephine Turnage, Audrey Sykes, Mary Ruth Smith and Martha Ann Sykes; brothers, Barney Pickering and Roy Pickering; and grandson, Billy Thompson.

Survivors are his wife of 56 years, Joy Ann Grice Pickering; sons, Kerry Wayne Pickering and wife, Julie, Greg Pickering and wife, Laura, and John Barry Pickering and wife, Robbi; brothers, James Pickering and Eugene Pickering; eight grandchildren, Blake Pickering and wife, Nicole, Hayley Pickering, Libbi Hobkirk and husband, David, Chelsea Pickering, Junior Pickering, Kaycee Pickering, Laura Coley and Jodie Thompson; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
