Margaret Tapley Boone

Margaret Tapley Boone, a lifetime resident of Brookhaven, passed away peacefully on Sept. 12, 2013 at her daughter’s home in Lafayette, La. where she was surrounded by family. Margaret was 87 years young.

Friends are cordially invited to join the family for visitation at 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16, at Riverwood Family Funeral Service. A graveside service will follow at 11 a.m. at Rosehill Cemetery. The Rev. David Moree will officiate.

Born on Dec. 26, 1925, she was the daughter of Robert and Della McManus Tapley of Brookhaven. Margaret was head drum majorette at Brookhaven High School during the WWII era. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. A strong cancer survivor of 19 years, she faced each day with smiles and kindness to everyone who knew her. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. “Tap” will be deeply missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and loving husband of 56 years, Alcus Boone Jr. She is survived by her beloved daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Brian Smith; granddaughter, Lacey Smith; and grandson, Trace Smith, all of Lafayette, La.

The family kindly requests, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brookhaven Animal Rescue League (BARL) @ P.O. Box 3477 Brookhaven, MS 39603 per her granddaughter’s request.
