Vernon W. Sauls, 83, of Brookhaven, died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013 at home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19, at Brookhaven Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sauls Family Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5 until 8 p.m. at Brookhaven Funeral Home on Natchez Drive.
On Sept. 17, 2013, Pop’s journey came to an end. It started April 1, 1930, in Lawrence County. He was a pipeliner for over 60 years and traveled all over this beautiful country. He had a green thumb, and always had a flourishing garden. In his golden years, he loved to fish and hunt with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pat Pruitt Sauls; parents, Charlie Mae and Georgian Flicker Sauls; brothers, Stanley Sauls, Kenneth Sauls and Edgar Sauls; and his sister, Marquittie “Skeet” Stampley.
Survivors are his sons, Vernon Dale Sauls and wife, Ruby, of Tickfaw, La. and David Vinton Sauls of Brookhaven; his daughter, Gracelyne “Sissy” Strange and husband, Bobby, of Brookhaven; sister, Mazzie Caddler; six grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and a special friend, Mary Wallace.
