Funeral services for Cora Mary Smith of Brookhaven are 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25, at Friendship Baptist Church, with burial in Easthaven Baptist Church Cemetery. Riverwood Family Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Tuesday from 4 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Smith, 83, died Sept. 22, 2013, at Golden Living Center-Brook Manor Nursing Home. She was born in Mississippi on Jan. 26, 1930, to Joe E. Burch and Lena Dickey Burch.

She worked 20 years with Harley Gove Sons with 17 years in management and sales. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and of the Golden Oldies.

“Mimi,” as her family lovingly called her, loved her family very much. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as only a grandmother could and took so much pride in their accomplishments. She loved to travel and gospel singing. She loved her church and her friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents.

Survivors are her sons, Sherman E. Smith and wife, Linda, of Lubbock, Texas; daughters, Glenda S. Smith and husband, Jimmy, of Brookhaven, and Paula D. McGowen and husband, Keith, of Brookhaven; grandchildren, Jeffery J. Smith and Melissa, Amanda S. Frantz and husband, Gary, Maggie S. Warren and husband, Micah, Sean P. McGowen, Payne R. McGowen and Sandra K. Smith; great-grandchildren, Hannah Smith, Hollie Smith and Heidi Smith; several nieces and nephews, and numerous special friends.
