Co-Lin host 2nd annual fall baseball

WESSON – Even though the season doesn’t begin until the spring, some area high school baseball players will get a jump-start on their season as they play in Copiah-Lincoln Community College’s second annual fall baseball league. The league is open to student-athletes in grades 10-13. The cost is $200 per participant and space is limited to the first 48 applicants. The league will begin play on Monday, Oct. 14 and conclude on Thursday, Nov. 7 at Sullivan Field on the college’s Wesson Campus.

“Our fall league will be great for any high school player looking to sharpen up their game during the offseason,” said Smith. “In an instructional league like this, you are constantly teaching the game and focusing on improving through competition and instruction.”

Teams will rotate on a schedule of games played on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday nights. Student-athletes that are involved in fall sports are asked to talk with their high schools coach before registering for the league. Each team will play a game based on pitch countevery week.

The Co-Lin baseball staff and players will coach and instruct each player to help improve their baseball skills. Instruction will be given before, during, and after the games.

Smith is in his first year coaching Co-Lin after accepting the job in the spring. He comes to Co-Lin after 10 years as the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator at Belhaven University. Under his tutelage, five former Belhaven Blazers were drafted in the Major League Draft and 12 signed professional contracts. Prior to his time at Belhaven, Smith was an assistant coach at the University of Southern Mississippi.
