Wesson edges Hazlehurst

WESSON – The Wesson Lady Cobras managed to stay undefeated in Region 7-3A action after edging the Hazlehurst Lady Indians 4-3 Monday night in slowpitch softball action.
The Lady Cobras (16-6, 3-0) resume action today as they host the Crystal Springs Lady Tigers for another huge region test. The junior varsity game will start at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity at 6 p.m.
Wesson 4, Hazlehurst 3
The Lady Cobras and Lady Indians battled back-and-forth in defensive contest, before Wesson managed to claim a 2-0 lead after four inning of work.
In the fifth inning, Hazlehurst trimmed into Wesson’s lead by pushing across one run, but the Lady Cobras responded to the challenge and added one run to keep a two-point lead.
In the sixth inning, the Lady Indians fought hard to tie the game at three-all. Wesson answered back in the bottom of the sixth and pushed across one run to take a slim 4-3 lead and hold off Hazlehurst in the seventh for the victory.
Cheyenne Gladden was the winning pitcher for the Lady Cobras with two strikeouts and no walks.
Bailey Middleton was the offensive leader for Wesson with a home run. Harmoni Ashley contributed two singles. Hailey Chassion, Aurianna Vaughn, Sarah Robinson, Kaitlyn Smith, Kayla Britt and Gladden hit safely.
