Panthers defeat South Pike; Lady Eagles soar past Ole Brook

MAGNOLIA – The Brookhaven Panthers secured a split over South Pike Tuesday night in basketball action.

In the girls’ game, the South Pike Lady Eagles soared past the Lady Panthers 57-38.

In boys’ action, the Panthers captured a 70-65 victory over South Pike.

Brookhaven continues action Thursday as they prepare to host an Ole Brook classic game against West Lincoln. The girls tip off at 6 p.m., followed by the boys.

Brookhaven 70, South Pike 65 

Khalil Newton pumped in a team-high 20 points to lead the Ole Brook Panthers. Lazorian McNulty chipped in with 10 points. Tavis Moore was the leader on the boards with nine rebounds.

“This was a hard fought game,” said BHS coach Preston Wilson. “We managed to get off to a good start with some easy transition baskets in the first quarter. We made some critical turnovers late in the fourth quarter, but we were able to hold on for the victory.”

Desmond Cook was the top offensive scorer with a game-high of 25 points for the South Pike Eagles. Jamorris Shaw contributed 16 points. Dorean Hill paced the Eagles on the boards with seven rebounds.
