Lady Panthers clip McComb, boys fall

The Brookhaven Panthers and Lady Panthers captured a split over the McComb Tigers in basketball action Saturday night at Sinclair Gymnasium.
In the girls’ game, the Lady Panthers won their second game in a row with a 33-26 victory over the Lady Tigers.
In boys’ action, the Tigers overpowered Ole Brook in the second half to escape with a 67-45 win over the Panthers.
Brookhaven will have the rest of the week off to enjoy Thanksgiving break before returning to action Tuesday, Dec. 3, when they will be hosted the Franklin County Bulldogs for three games. Junior varsity action tips off at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity games.
Brookhaven 33, McComb 26
The Lady Panthers and Lady Tigers battled back and forth in the opening quarter as McComb held a slim 3-2 lead.
In the second quarter, Brookhaven outscored McComb 9-2 to secure a 11-5 lead at halftime.
In the second half, the Lady Panthers and Lady Tigers continued their defensive battle as Ole Brook managed to hold on the win.
Junior guard Jessica Wilson pumped in a game-high double-double to lead the Lady Panthers (2-4) with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Kynitria Hill helped on the boards with eight rebounds, while netting four points.
McComb 67, Brookhaven 45
In the boys game, Brookhaven and McComb provided a tough defensive battle similar to the girls’ contest as the Tigers held a slight 30-28 lead at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Tigers came out on fire as they hammered the Panthers 22-5 to increase their lead to 52-33 and defend off Ole Brook’s rally in the fourth to claim the win.
Lazorian McNulty was the offensive leader for the Panthers with 13 points. He also took charge of the boards with five rebounds. Tavis Moore contributed nine points and Khalil Newton had eight points.
