Lt. Col. John David Albritton

Funeral services for Lt. Col. John David Albritton, are 3 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, at First Baptist Church of Starkville with burial in Memorial Garden Park. The service will be conducted by Dr. Chip Stevens and the Rev. Clifton Curtis.

Visitation is Monday from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Starkville.

Lt. Col. John David Albritton, 86, passed away at Oktibbeha Regional Medical Center in Starkville on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013.

He graduated from Mississippi State University with a Bachelor of Science and Master’s in Agronomy and Seed Technology. John was a retired army Lt. Colonel of World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He was a member of VFW Post No. 5773, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion Post 13, the Retired Officers Association, Civitan Club and Alpha Zeta. He was also a member and deacon of First Baptist Church of Starkville. He was also a member of the MSU Ag Club and MSU Bulldog Club. John was well known as an avid gardener.

Mr. Albritton is survived by his wife of 65 years, Frankine B. Albritton of Starkville; daughters, Laura Susan A. deFreeze, of Orlando, Fla., and Martha Lynn A. Magnus (Jonathan), of Sugarland, Texas; son, David R. Albritton (Anna M.), of Starkville; sister, Betty A. Templeton of Starkville; brother, Paul D. Albritton of Liberty; and grandchildren, Ashley Albritton, Wesley Albritton, Connor deFreeze and Carrie Anne deFreese.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry H. and Laura Belle Brown Albritton; a sister, Pauline A. Moak; and brothers, Joe W., Pete, Harold and Barney Albritton.
