BA rolls past Parklane

MCCOMB – The Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougars climbed into the win column after trouncing the Parklane Lady Pioneers 38-21 Thursday night in MAIS basketball action.

In boys’ action, The Cougars high-octane (8-2) offense was too much for the Pioneers to handle as BA roared to a 61-46 victory.

BA continues their road tour today as they visit Prentiss to battle the Prentiss Christian Saints and Lady Saints for four games. Junior varsity action tips off at 4 p.m. for the girls, followed by the boys. Varsity action starts at 6 p.m. for the girls and 7:30 for the boys.

Brookhaven Acad. 38, Parklane 21 

The Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougars came out firing in the first quarter hitting six 3-point shots to take a 18-4 lead, and they never looked back.

Junior guard Anna Smith led the Lady Cougars with 10 points, Hillary Wilson dropped in nine points and Mary Claire White added six points to the BA total.

Madison Warren handed out five assists to go with five points on the evening.

The Lady Pioneers were led by Destin Brown’s eight points. Kelly Smith chipped in with five points.

“This was a great team effort tonight. We shared the ball as well as we have all year,” said BA coach Mack Gardner, “Our girls played hard for the entire 32 minutes. We’ll enjoy this one tonight and get back to work in the morning to prepare for our first district game tomorrow night.”

Brookhaven Acad. 61, Parklane 46 

The Cougars came out strong like the girls did and manhandled the Pioneers in the opening quarter to take a 20-7 lead and coast to an 35-23 halftime lead.

In the second half, both teams fought hard in a defensive bout as BA held on for the win.

Peyton Hood paced the Cougars with 15 points and eight rebounds. Zac Smith contributed 14 points and three rebounds. Ethan Harris had 12 points and six rebounds.

Quartez Brown was the top offensive scorer for the Pioneers with 13 points.
