Funeral services for Stephen Albert Turnage of Brookhaven are 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 9, at Riverwood Family Funeral Service with burial at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Bogue Chitto.

Visitation is Wednesday from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the funeral home and will resume on Thursday from 10 until 11 a.m.

Mr. Turnage was born on April 16, 1950, in Pensacola, Fla. to Josephine Pickering Turnage and Albert Lee Turnage.

He grew up in Sicily Island, La. before moving to Brookhaven where he finished high school and married Connie Earline Hodges on July 25, 1970. He attended Whitworth College before enlisting in the Navy Reserves and serving in Norfolk, Va. During his career he lived many places throughout the United States before returning to Brookhaven.

In 2010 he retired as a sergeant from the Louisiana Department of Corrections after 19 years of service.

He was a member of Easthaven Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sue Guice.

Survivors include his wife Connie; his son, Brian and Tricia Turnage; daughter, Stacy and Jeff Garner; grandchildren, Megan Turnage, Brandon and Brett Ravenscraft, Abby and Emily Garner; sister Rhonda and Dean Wiggins of Shreveport; mother and father-in-law, Clarmon and Thelma Hodges; and brother-in-law, Garry Hodges of McComb, as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
