Warren Central takes two from Ole Brook

VICKSBURG – Despite a team-high of 28 points from junior Jessica Wilson, the Brookhaven Lady Panthers fell to the Warren Central Lady Vikings 73-63 Tuesday night in the Warren Central Gym.

The Brookhaven Panthers dropped a 44-39 decision to the Warren Central Vikings.

Brookhaven hosts Region 6-5A for Wingfield in Sinclair Gym for a pair of varsity games tipping off at 6 p.m.

The Lady Panthers (10-8) got 17 points, 11 rebounds, 6 steals and 2 assists from senior Fredericka Fairman. Senior Diamond Herring tossed in 11 points.

Other Brookhaven scorers included Kynitria Hill with 5 points and Yasmine Hill with 2 points. Kynitria Hill grabbed 8 rebounds and had 2 steals.

Brookhaven shot 32 percent (20-of-63) from the field, including a 2-of-3 clip from 3-point range. The Lady Panthers were 21 of 31 from the charity stripe, while committing 23 turnovers.

Warren Central, coached by Jackie Martin-Glass, improved to 6-13.

The Panthers (16-5) got off to an uncharacteristically slow start, with a 10-all deadlock heading into the second period. They trailed 20-19 at halftime.

“We got off to a slow start,” said Panther head coach Preston Wilson. “Warren Central controlled the tempo of the game.”

Wilson’s squad used 13-9 third frame to carry at 32-29 lead into the final quarter. But the Vikings countered with 15-7 stretch in the final 8 minutes to garnered the victory.

“We missed opportunities at the free throw line and poor on-ball defense,” commented Wilson. “We had our chance, but could not make key baskets when needed.”

Brookhaven was led by Shaquan Richardson with 11 points and Lazorian McNulty with 10 points. Other scorers included Khalil Newton with 9 points, Tavis Moore with 6 points, Fred Trevillion with 2 points and Damarius Brooks with 1 point.
