FC kickers tune up for playoffs

BUDE – Franklin County senior Hoby Mullins set a new Class 3A record for goals scored in a season with five against Crystal Springs, as the Bulldogs claimed an 8-3 win.

In the girls’ game, Macy Ziskin provided the shutout in a 3-0 win for FC.

Franklin High will celebrate “Senior Night” Friday at 5:30 with a doubleheader against McLaurin.

Mullins, a Roxie native joined his older sister Karlee in the 3A record books as the top scorers in school, district and classification.

For the season, Hoby has scored a record 41 goals, which is tops in the boys’ division. His older sister Karlee set 3A marks in 2010 with 40 goals scored in the girls’ ranks.

Coached by Jeff Long, the Bulldog improved to 18-1. FC lost to Florence Monday but bounced back against a gritty Crystal Springs team.

The Bulldogs got lone goals from Zayne Mullins, Greg Queen and Kane Gilliam.

In the girls’ contest, Jourdan Cummings, Si’Edriq Middleton, and Krislyn Kent each scored a goal each en route to a 3-0 win for the Lady Bulldogs.

Standing 18-1, freshmen goalie Macy Ziskin provided the shutout with numerous saves.

Both FC soccer teams will host a first round playoff game on Tuesday, with girls match-up beginning at 5 p.m. followed by the boys’ contest at 7.
