DECATUR – In the first match of the year, the Co-Lin Lady Wolves tennis team defeated host East Central 6-3. The Lady Wolves won singles matches at No. 1, No. 2, No. 5, and No. 6 and at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.

Sophomore Courtney Watts of Brookhaven defeated Hannah Peoples at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-4. Watts is the returning state champion at No. 3 doubles and No. 4 singles finalist. Fellow sophomore Melody Smith of Brookhaven defeated Alana Turner of East Central 6-3. 6-4. The sister combination of Erika and Allie Dear of Florence won their singles matches. Erika defeated Hannah Smith 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 and sister Allie defeated Lauren Peterson 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6.

In other singles action, East Central’s Amber Pierce defeated Co-Lin’s Savannah Brister of Brookhaven 2-6, 6-4, (10-2) at No. 3 and Nan Hartness defeated Carlianne Alderman of Brookhaven 6-0, 6-4 at No. 4.

In doubles action, Watts/Smith defeated Turner/Pierce 8-3 at No. 1. Alderman and partner Carly Riley defeated Katlyn Patrick/Hannah Smith 8-6 at No. 3. East Central’s Peoples/Hartness defeated Caroleah Brister/Savannah Brister 8-5.

Co-Lin will host Itawamba on Friday, Feb. 21, beginning at 2 p.m.
