Laurel slips past Ole Brook
LAUREL – Not even a career night from Brookhaven senior forward Fred Trevillion was enough to save their season. He tossed in a team-high 26 points, but the Panthers fell to the Laurel Golden Tornadoes 77-70 Tuesday night, in the opening round of the MHSAA Class 5A South State playoffs.
The Panthers conclude their season with a 21-7 worksheet.
Brookhaven found themselves down 21-18 after one period, and 37-33 to start the second half. The Panthers entered the final 8 minutes down 57-51. Ole Brook shot 50 percent (24 of 48) from the field and 75 percent from the charity stripe; committing only 9 turnovers.
“The young men had a great season, and they left everything they had on the court,” said Ole Brook head coach Preston Wilson. “Proud of their effort. They played with the heart of champions.”
Lending support for Brookhaven were Damarius Brooks with 14 points and Shaquan Richardson with 11. Tavis Moore had 8 rebounds, while Trevillion blocked 3 Laurel shots. Khalil Newton dished out 4 assists.
