BA surpasses Parklane

McCOMB – Behind a solid pitching performance by Zach Dickerson and the hot bat of Landon Nettles, the Brookhaven Academy Cougars defeated the Parklane Pioneers 5-1 Thursday evening in McComb.

Dickerson gave up only three hits to go along with 2 strikeouts in his complete game outing on the mound. Nettles smashed a 3-run homer in the fifth inning and added a solo shot in the top of the seventh as security for the Cougars.

“Zach (Dickerson) pitched an outstanding game for us and Landon (Nettles) delivered the knock out blows with his two home runs and four RBI’s,” said BA head coach Casey Edwards after the game. “I really feel like we made a big turn in the right direction. We’re starting to play with some confidence and that’s exactly what we’ve needed.”

Offensively the Cougars were led by Nettles and his two home runs, four RBI’s on the night. Adding support to the Cougar cause were John Coleman, Bailey Warren, Heath Hickman and Dickerson with a single each.

In junior varsity action, the Parklane junior varsity squad plated two runs in the bottom of the third inning breaking a two all tie and held on to defeat the BA Cougars 4-2.

Madison Smith absorbed the loss for BA striking out five batters and issuing four walks for the game. Brandt Watson picked up the win for the Pioneers in relief.

Lamar Lang had two hits for the Cougars on the evening. Austin Smith and Taylor Freeny added support with a single each.
