Lady Hornets surf Cathedral

NATCHEZ – The Loyd Star Lady Hornets overpowered the Natchez Cathedral Lady Green Wave to capture a 13-3 victory Friday night in softball action.
“My girls played really well offensively and defensively,” said Loyd Star coach Jan Delaughter. “The girls did the thing they needed to do to get the win.”
Loyd Star (2-1) returns to action Monday as they prepare to take on the West Lincoln Lady Bears in the Lincoln County softball tournament at Bogue Chitto.

Makenzie Smith was the winning pitcher for the Lady Hornets with five strikeouts and two walks. Kelsey McCullough (0K, 2BB) saw some action in relief for Loyd Star.
Elizabeth Smith suffered the loss for the Lady Green Wave with five strikeouts and nine walks.
Julie Smith powered the Lady Hornets at the plate with three singles. Raigan Smith provided two doubles. Brooks Rushing ripped a triple. Lexie Butler and Madison Jones hit safely.
Tori Edwards was the top hitter for the Lady Green Wave with a home run and a single. Mackenzie Watts and Baylee Graining had a single apiece.
In junior varsity action, Loyd Star defeated Natchez Cathedral 11-3. Johnna Norman tossed the win for the Lady Hornets, collecting two strikeouts and two walks.
Makenzie Smith led Loyd Star at the plate with a double. Norton and Norman had a single apiece.
